LEGAL AUTHORITY FOR CREATION AND OPERATION(City)
City of Houston Mechanical Code, Chapter 1, Sections 121.0 through 121.2.
GENERAL POWER AND DUTIES
1. The Mechanical Code Review Board shall make technical and administrative interpretations of the City of Houston Mechanical Code and hear appeals regarding the same.
2. Review and approve new material presented to it.
3. Make recommendations to City Council regarding changes to the provisions of the City Mechanical Code pertaining to or affecting air conditioning, heating, ventilation or refrigeration.
MEETING TIME AND LOCATION
Regular annual meetings, 3300 Main Street, Houston.
TOTAL: 7 members
Positions 3 through 7: Nominated by the Mayor and confirmed by City Council.
Position 1: Building official of the city
Position 2: City Fire Marshal
Positions 3 & 4: A registered professional engineer licensed by the State of Texas who are actively engaged in mechanical engineering.
Position 5: A duly licensed Class A air conditioning and refrigeration contractor licensed under the Texas Air Conditioning and RefrigerationContractor License Law.
Position 6: filled by a duly licensed Class B air conditioning and refrigeration contractor licensed under the Texas Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Contractor License Law.
Position 7 - Representative of the public.
NOTE: Those members of the board who hold membership on the board by virtue of their employment classification with the jurisdiction will hold such membership as long as they are so classified. In addition to other qualifications hereinabove required, each member of the board shall
be a citizen of the United States. All members of the board shall be selected on the basis of their technical and professional qualifications, except that the appointee to Position 7 is not required to have the technical and professional qualifications required for other members of the board.
TERM: Two years. The terms of office for the appointees to Positions Nos. 3, 5, and 7 on the board will expire on the second day of January of odd-numbered years, and the terms of office for the appointees to Positions Nos. 4 and 6 will expire on the second day of January on even-numbered years. However, each member shall continue in office until a successor has been appointed and qualified. Those members of the board who hold membership on the board by virtue of their
employment classification with the jurisdiction will hold such membership as long as they are so classified.
CHAIRPERSON: The Mayor shall designate a member to be chairman. The Building Official, or a duly authorized representative, shall act as secretary of the board.
QUORUM: Four members of the board at any meeting shall constitute a quorum for transaction of all business of the board. A majority vote of the members present at any meeting at which a quorum is present shall prevail.
COMPENSATION: Each member of the board shall receive $50.00 for each meeting the member attends (not to exceed three meetings in a calendar month) at which a quorum is present, provided, however each member of the board who is an employee of the jurisdiction will be paid only for those meetings they attend that are neither held during nor continue beyond his or her regular working hours.
Entity is NOT included in the financial reporting for the City of Houston.
