GENERAL POWER AND DUTIES
To make recommendations to the City Council concerning the administration of the Zone. Prepare or cause to be prepared to adopt a project plan and a financing plan for the Zone and submit such plans to the City Council for its approval.
MEETING TIME AND LOCATION
Time and date of meeting to be determined by Board (notice of same will be posted).
COMPOSITION
TOTAL: 9 members
Positions 1 through 5: Mayor appointed, confirmed by City Council.
Position 6: Reserved for HISD appointee.
Position 7: Reserved for Harris County appointee.
Positions 8 & 9: Reserved for other taxing units within the Zone.
QUALIFICATIONS (Non – Petition)
(A) Be a qualified voter of the City; OR
(B) Be at least 18 years of age and own real property in the zone, whether or not the individual resides in the City.
PROCESS: Positions 1 through 5 and Chair:
1. Memo from Mayor to City Council nominating and appointing Director(s)
2. Attach resume with home address
3. Send memo to City Secretary for calendaring on agenda 2 weeks following the date of memo
Positions 6 & 7: Reserved for HISD and Harris County, levying taxes on real property in the Zone, whom may appoint one director. 2 If Harris County does not participate in the Zone, the process for positions 1 through 5 is followed. Position 8 & 9: Reserved for other taxing units levying taxes on real property in the Zone, whom may appoint one director. If the respective organization, does not participate in the Zone, the process for positions 1 through 5 is followed.
CORRESPONDING BOARD: Main Street Market Square Redevelopment Authority.
TERM: Odd-numbered positions expire Dec. 31 of odd-numbered years. Even numbered positions expire Dec. 31 of even-numbered years.
CHAIRPERSON: Appointed by the Mayor, confirmed by City Council. Serves 1 year term expiring Dec. 31.
QUORUM: Not specified.
COMPENSATION: Not specified.
DURATION OF BOARD: Jan. 1, 1996 – Dec. 31, 2025.
